Get back $40 million or appear in court: Banks to Mallya

On Friday, the State Bank of India (SBI), leading a consortium of banks, appealed to the Supreme Court to initiate recovery proceedings against Vijay Mallya, who owes the banks Rs 9,000 crore.

Senior Advocate Shyam Divan representing SBI submitted that in August 2016, Mallya deliberately failed to disclose $40 million he received in February 2016 through sale proceedings from a British firm called Diageo.

"The money was received in violation of various orders and injuctions against him. Mallya deliberately failed to disclose this amount and has transferred the money in a trust set up for his three children," Divan said.

The banks appealed for orders be passed to "secure the deposit of the said amount of $40 million before this court or the DRT forthwith, pending disposal of the further recovery proceedings." The banks have also filed a plea seeking contempt proceedings against Mallya since he has not responded or replied to court summons and orders.

In November 2016, a trial court in Delhi issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against him for allegedly evading summons in a case of FERA violation. The court was of the opinion that "coercive steps" needed to be taken against the accused.

Rangoon movie 1st day box office collection : update

Rangoon opened its account at the box office on Friday morning. With Kangana Ranaut, Shahid Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan in the lead, the war drama has been directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. But despite the film having a niche appeal and high expectations, it had a rather “dismal” start.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted “#Rangoon has a dismal start… Fri ₹ 6.07 cr. India biz… Will need to show massive growth on Sat + Sun to sustain and survive.”
Rangoon got less than average opening on Friday morning despite it being a holiday in many parts of India due to Maha Shivaratri. The film saw about 10-15 percent occupancy in most theatres in the first show which couldn’t show much improvement even as the day progressed.

The film has opened on approximately 1800 screens in India. The film did manage to create a buzz among the audience thanks to its steady media campaign and the pairing of Kangana and Shahid. While Kangana is riding a success wave, Shahid is fresh from the success of Udta Punjab. But how much will this add to Rangoon’s performance in the coming days, is yet to be seen.

Made at a budget of around Rs 40 crore, Rangoon is said to be Vishal Bhardwaj’s most expensive film till date. According to trade’s expectations, the film should earn between Rs 5 to 7 crore on day one. From there on, its performance depends on the reviews and word-of-mouth publicity.

While Kangana is getting kudos for her stellar performance in the film, reviews have been largely mixed with critics saying that the story and setting fail the period extravaganza. talking about her expectations from Rangoon, Kangana said, “This is a business proposition so, all you want is that the investments should be recovered. With every film, there is this expectation of doing Rs 100 crore that I find vulgar. But it should be a beneficial business proposition for everyone.”

It'll come as no surprise to those familiar with smartphone release cycles, but CES 2017 has been and gone with no Galaxy S8 sightings. Samsung released TVs, fridges, speakers, Chromebooks, updated versions of the Galaxy A3 (2017) and Galaxy A5 (2017), and half-hearted apologies for the exploding Note 7 fiasco but, alas, no shiny new flagship.

Unfortunately, it turns out that we won't be seeing Samsung's new phone at the next big tradeshow – MWC 2017 – either. In a surprise announcement, Samsung confirmed that the Galaxy S8 would skip the show, with analysts expecting an April debut instead.

The good news is that Samsung has already applied for the Galaxy S8 trademark, which may mean a launch is imminent. Early in January, Samsung filed for ownership of the branding, citing smartphones, tablets, cables, and phone cases as the sorts of items it could be applied too.  Despite the fiery Note 7 PR debacle, it seems Galaxy isn't going away any time soon.

There's plenty of new S8 talking points, though. For instance, it's expected that we'll see two distinct variants of the Galaxy S8, one small and one big. The larger version is, according to Evan Blass, going to be called the Galaxy S8+, and both versions will reportedly have an 'Edge' style display – flat screens begone.

Better still, we’re already hearing talk of Galaxy S8 specs, with rumoured features including a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chip, a QHD display, and a very high screen-to-body ratio, as this leaked photo (courtesy of Sammobile) demonstrates:

MS Dhoni travels in train with Jharkhand team after 13 years

The South Eastern Railway served a very special passenger last night when its former employee Mahendra Singh Dhoni preferred to travel by train with his Jharkhand one-day cricket team from Ranchi to Howrah to participate in the Vijay Hazare Trophy here

Rewinding the clock back to his struggle days in early 2000s when he was posted as a ticket inspector in Kharagpur, India's most successful captain, Dhoni travelled in second-tier AC of 18616 Kriya Yoga Express.

Dhoni, who will lead Jharkhand in domestic one-dayers for the Vijay Hazare Trophy here, did not ask for any special service in his first train ride in more than 13 years.

"They (Jharkhand) did not have a special coach reserved for them and Dhoni travelled with his team and other co-passengers in 2AC. They had a block booking for 23 passengers, including Dhoni," South Eastern Railway chief public relations officer Sanjoy Ghosh said.

Dhoni boarded the Kriya Yoga Express at 9.40 pm in Ranchi and disembarked in Howrah at 6.50 am this morning after crossing the Kharagpur platform early this morning at 4.15 am.

The excitement for the World Cup-winning skipper was palpable as a relaxed-looking Dhoni shared a selfie with his millions of followers on social network.

"We had a prior information about this and so we had arranged special security when they boarded in Ranchi last night and upon their arrival this morning in Howrah," Ghosh said.

Before making the India team Dhoni was employed by SER as a TTE from September 2001 till July 2004 in Kharagpur, something that is well-documented in his biopic "MS Dhoni", a blockbuster last year.

"Railway is India's lifeline and everyone travels by train at some point. It's Dhoni's greatness that he opted to take train and be with his wards instead of flying," Ghosh added.

Dhoni, who was removed as skipper of Indian Premier League side Rising Pune Supergiants a few days ago, had played last two seasons only as wicketkeeper for Jharkhand.

But having relinquished Team India captaincy from all formats, Dhoni opted to lead his state and all eyes would be on the 'captain cool' in this season's domestic one-dayers beginning February 25.

This will be a star-studded affair with Harbhajan Singh leading Punjab that also has Yuvraj Singh, while a fit-again Indian opener Rohit Sharma is back for Mumbai after a thigh surgery.

Bad news, Lamborghini owners. Your expensive supercar is being recalled due to a fire risk. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued a report that said the problem lay with the fuel tank.

The recall affect all 2012 to 2017 models of the Lamborghini Aventador, including all limited editions. Yes, even the Veneno, which sells between $4 million and $4.5 million.

Lamborghini said seven cases of fire have occurred worldwide. As part of the recall, approximately 1,453 model are potentially affected.

It's a rare day when you come across a recall for one-off, million-dollar supercar variants. Today is one of those days.

Lamborghini issued a recall covering 1,453 examples of the 2012-2017 Aventador. The vehicles have production dates between March 22, 2011 and December 5, 2016. This recall includes Aventador-based special edition models, like the Superveloce, as well as the one-off Veneno, of which only 12 exist.

Not that you'll ever see a Veneno on the road, but if you do, and it's revving while standing still, grab a fire extinguisher.

The issue relates to the engine bay. Apparently, a full fuel tank might cause liquid fuel to enter the emission system's carbon canister, which catches fuel that would have evaporated into the atmosphere. Certain actions, such as revving the car while idling, can put fuel vapor close enough to the hot exhaust system to create a fire risk.

The risks increase when an aftermarket exhaust system is involved. Considering many Lamborghinis I've seen pack exhaust upgrades and love to sit and rev for no real reason, this could be a serious concern for owners.

Lamborghini will notify all affected owners by mail. Dealerships will receive the cars and remedy the issue by replacing the evaporative emissions system with upgraded components. A higher performance purge valve will be added, along with a new rollover valve that prevents fuel overfilling. The new Aventador S already has this upgrade, as do certain Aventador SV models.

Jolly LLB 2 is the second installment in the Jolly LLB  series which began in 2013. Both films, directed by Subhash Kapoor, albeit with different cast, followed the same structure of storytelling; Jolly is a small-time lawyer who grows a conscience and fights for justice against a rich and corrupt lawyer.

In the first part, Arshad Warsi played Jolly while the antagonist's role was essayed by Boman Irani. In the second part, Akshay Kumar plays Jolly while Annu Kapoor plays the evil lawyer. It's coming back — and really, we shouldn't be surprised. It's the unkillable phone, after all. The Nokia 3310 became synonymous with toughness. When the iPhone first came out, we all learned the frustration of a phone that was exciting and versatile but so, so fragile. Thus began the jokes about how the 3310 could survive anything: getting wet, being dropped, even being run over, probably.

 As per the report, we should expect to see a modern version of the 3310 which was primarily known for its plentiful battery life and nearly indestructible build. The phone is expected to cost as low as $60 which would be competitive enough to win over nostalgic former owners.

HMD Global Oy bought manufacturing rights for the Nokia brand in May last year and has so far released its hig- end Nokia 6 smartphone in China only. The device features a full HD, 5.5-inch display, Snapdragon 430 system-on-chip, 4GB of RAM and a 16-megapixel primary camera.

The smartphone manufacturer will finally be rolling out Nokia 6 to other markets along with the mid-ranged Nokia 3 and 5 at this year’s MWC event.

If rumours are true, the Nokia 5 will retain the Snapdragon 430 system-on-chip with 5.2 inches display at 720p along with 2GB RAM and 12 megapixels camera. The device will cost around $210.

Nokia 3, the entry level Android, will initially be sold for around $160.

Justin Bieber will perform in Mumbai on May 10 as part of the Asia leg of his world tour.

According to an official statement from Arjun Jain, director of White Fox India, the promoter of the tour, Bieber will perform at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

Apart from Mumbai, the Asia leg of Bieber’s highly-successful ‘Purpose World Tour’ will cover Tel Aviv and Dubai. The tour has so far covered the USA, Canada and Japan.

“Justin Bieber will be bringing an extraordinarily epic show that India has not witnessed in recent times,” the statement read.

“Apart from Mumbai, he’ll visit New Delhi and Jaipur for some sightseeing. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted about the film’s business, “#JollyLLB2 has a TERRIFIC Sun. Goes from strength to strength. Fri 13.20 cr, Sat 17.31 cr, Sun 19.95 cr. Total: ₹ 50.46 cr. India biz.” If all goes well, the film is likely to earn Rs 100 crore soon.

Earlier, Jolly LLB 2 — which replaced Arshad Warsi with Akshay in the titular role — crossed the lifetime collection of the first instalment in mere three days. The lifetime collection of Jolly LLB, starring Arshad Warsi and Boman Irani, was Rs 32 crore, whereas Jolly LLB 2 has collected Rs 30.52 crore in just two days. The film saw a growth of 31.20% on its second day with a collection of Rs 17.31 crore. If the movie crosses Rs 100-crore mark, Jolly LLB 2 will become Akshay Kumar’s fourth film in a row to have entered the elite club after Airlift, Housefull 3 and Rustom within 13 months.
